Remember this guy? Or maybe it is a twin brother.....but he is not my friend. First of all he would try to eat all the bird seed....
Out front I planted some sunflower seeds. Mixed sunflowers - earlier post showed the pretty orange ones I got. And then I had this humongous one. More than 12 inches in diameter. It was glorious! And then it got too heavy too hold its own head up. Hmmm, maybe this one is producing seeds!
Apparently it was and also apparently SQUIRRELS LOVE SUNFLOWERS!!!!!!!!!!!! You can see that little bugger ate 3/4 of them! And he was also eating the flower itself! Gotta love the 'net - I came in an did research (after screaming like a banshee at that %^%@@%$#&$#@ squirrel!) and found that I should have harvested the head a long time ago and let the seeds dry out. So I took a large knife outside and hacked off the flower and brought it inside to dry out....THAT'LL SHOW HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was hoping to not only have some to eat but also some to plant next year!
And now on to dog stories......we have this ADHD dog who we adopted from a rescue group years ago. For whatever reason, he had all these scarred pads on his knees. Well about a week ago I noticed one of them was an open sore. My husband wanted me to take him to a vet. But he was doing okay - eating and drinking well, no signs of pain or infection.....so I started treating it myself and it is looking really better. I dont think he likes me tho when I doctor and wrap it up!
So last night I got a call from my son....his dog had been attacked and had all these bites. I know he doesnt have the money for an emergency vet. So he brought the dog over, and was waiting for me when I got home at midnight last night (I worked from 0700 - 2300). By that time, he had already cleaned the bites and bandaged them up. So we just had to figure out a covering bandage. Poor thing - he looked so pitiful! I am still waiting to hear from son today to find out how Hyde is doing...
And pregnant daughter is having to have all these check ups to watch the baby. She is scheduled for her c/section on the 18th but I think this baby is larger than the other two (and by larger, I am guessing 7#) and is running out of room. So after being checked out 3 times last week - and being told to go in Sunday - the OB called her today and said he wants her checked out again today (instead of tomorrow). I am betting he decides to deliver her earlier - and that will be fine cause then she can come to her niece's first birthday party on the 21st!
Which reminds me, I really need to get to cleaning....Oh, the best news? The heat wave appears to have broken and it feels like a glorious fall say outside!

Ooooh, a new grandbaby! How exciting! Both of my kids had their two and quit. Now I'm waiting for the nieces!
We don't have ANY squirrels. Our cats kill 'em all. They seem to have a real hatred for them; everything else they kill is just left nicely laying on the front step, but they tear up squirrel carcasses. I guess the squirrels taunt them.
I've never seen a sunflower so big.
We have lots of squirrels and skunks in my town, yuck
Did you ever get your yard sale swap package, I hope it didn't get lost somewhere.
